It is launching a major campaign – "Security First" - that seeks to inform Israelis about the critical decision they must make. It argues that the Israeli leadership must work to integrate Israel into a regional coalition that will ensure that Israelis, Palestinians, and the citizens of Middle East nations live together in security, peace and prosperity. And that, in this context, it must pursue a policy of civil separation from the Palestinians, a set of moves designed as a critical and practical step towards a future permanent accord, enhancing Palestinian self-determination and empowerment, and improved mutual confidence.

Commanders for Israel’s Security is a non-partisan movement of over 550 former senior officers and officials of the IDF, Mossad, Shin Bet (internal security), Israel Police and Foreign Service, committed to the Zionist vision of a secure, democratic Israel with a solid Jewish majority for generations, in the spirit of the Declaration of Independence. CIS’ hundreds of members share the view that achieving this national goal requires separation from millions of Palestinians, ultimately through a negotiated ‘two states for two peoples’ agreement and its implementation within a regional framework.
“We have two possible paths" said CIS Chair, Major General (Res.) Matan Vilnai (former IDF Deputy Chief of Staff). "We can continue the current slide towards annexation, in pursuit of a Messianic pipe dream, leading unavoidably to a dystopian one-state, non-democratic, non-Jewish, insecure pariah reality, or we can opt to correct course and return to the Zionist vision reflected in the Declaration of Independence, pursue security and economic cooperation with the states and peoples of the region, and free Israel from control of millions of Palestinians - the only way to ensure a secure, democratic and Jewish state. The events of and since 10/7 have made this choice no longer avoidable, and at the same time have created the conditions for realizing the second – true Zionist – vision."
